Musee Dawson Trail Open House (Richer) – May 23, 2022

Exploring the past has never been so fun! On May 23, 2022, Musee Dawson Trail Museum is starting their season off with a bang with an Open House! Enjoy a day touring the museum, free cake and popcorn, 50/50 raffle, checking out their new gift shop, the Dawson Trail Art Exhibit launch, live music featuring Robert Halaoiski and the Country Star Band, and more! Farm Dog will be on-site providing mouth-watering Métis culture food as well.

Here’s some information on the Musee Dawson Trail:

Between the years of 1910 and 1913, the Enfant-Jésus Roman Catholic Church (now the Dawson Trail Museum) was built. The reason for the construction of a new church was that the village of Richer was growing and, with the population number growing, needed a new, larger church.

The building continued as a church until 1995, when, sadly, the Archdioceses of Manitoba closed the doors of Enfant-Jésus Roman Catholic Church due to shrinking attendance.

Even though it is no longer a place of worship, the memory of the Enfant-Jésus Roman Catholic Church will never be forgotten. The volunteers of the Musee Dawson Trail keep the spirit of ‘what has been’ alive, not only for Enfant-Jésus Roman Catholic Church but for all of Richer and area history.

The building and grounds remain in beautiful condition with the awe-inspiring, towering spire, fascinating century-old cemetery, and artifacts and displays that tell the stories of daily life for people that lived in the community a hundred years ago.

Go Fish! (Various Locations)

And no, not the card game, silly! Pack your gear, get those snacks, and bring the family or friends to Eastern Manitoba for an afternoon of fishing! Perhaps one of Manitoba’s favourite past-times is casting a line while surrounded by the great outdoors – and it’s easy to see why. Fishing is a fantastic way to connect with those you care about while creating life-long memories. Fishing also offers a disconnect from those everyday stressors as you unleash yourself in nature.
