Historically, February is one of the coldest months of our Manitoba Winters, but that hasn’t stopped our Eastern Manitoba communities from bringing together some of the best events happening this year. Be a hearty Manitobian this week, hidden beneath your layers, upon layers of clothing, and get out to explore #EasternMb. From the indoor warmth of a high-energy Celtic performance to howling with the wolves, we’re sure that you are going to have one exciting Eastern adventure.


Enjoy the Rocky, Rhythmic Undertow of the Derina Harvey Band

EMCA presents the Derina Harvey Band, an Alberta-based Celtic-rock act, who offer an authentic east-coast experience with a fresh take on traditional tunes as well as their own original jigs and reels. Their rocky, rhythmic undertow is layered with guitars, fiddle, and topped by Derina’s powerful voice. These transplanted east-coasters have earned a reputation with their high-energy live show, leaving many an audience out-of-breath and hollering from their seats!

Enjoy a fun-filled day at Steinbach’s Mennonite Heritage Village. Tons of outdoor activities are planned with skating, snowman building contests, sleigh rides, hood hustle, bonfire, hot chocolate bar, smore making, tug of war, snow bowling, snowball toss, dart toss, snowman golf, guessing booth, snow castle building contests, ring toss, and smoosh races.

Achieve Personal Greatness this Weekend

Crow Wing Trail, St Malo

If you enjoy pushing yourself to the max, then the 2018 Actif Epica Ultra Marathon is the place to be this weekend. Participants can join in on the classic 125 km race, cyclists will have the option to tackle a longer 200 km course, while runners can opt for a 162 km route. This winter adventure is located on the Crow Wing Trail near North America’s geographic centre.

A New Winter Festival Makes its Debut

The Whiteshell Winter Arts Festival is going to be a huge hit this weekend as it makes its debut and will undoubtedly become an annual gathering of community, festivities, family, friends, and fun. With so many activities planned, you are not going to be able to do it all. Pinawa will be bursting with creativity and fun as different activities, classes, workshops, and performances take place both inside and out. There will be clay sculpting/painting demonstrations, painting workshops for both kids and adults, snow painting, storytelling, book signing and author presentations, yoga, tours of the art gallery, live music, meditating classes, photography, curling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, puppet shows, a soup bar, chicken drop, a paint night, smores by the bonfire and so much more!

Red Rock Lake Snowmobile Shelter, Whiteshell Provincial Park

Meet up with a Manitoba Parks’ Interpreter for this amazing Interpretive Event at the Red Rock Lake Snowmobile Shelter on Snoman Trail 66 for this unique opportunity to howl for wolves and listen for their haunting calls. Afterwards, warm up in the shelter with hot chocolate next to the wood stove.
