Boreal Shores Art Tour – A Different Way to Road Trip!

Pack your vehicle and bring your family and friends on a fantastic road trip throughout Eastern Manitoba with Boreal Shores Art Tour on August 20 and 21, 2022. Explore the world of local artists during this self-guided driving tour, where you’ll experience visually stunning artwork, meet the artists, and adventure through Eastern Manitoba in an entirely different way.

About the Route

Creativity runs deep in Eastern Manitoba, and inspiration flows at every turn. From the surreal east shore beaches of Lake Winnipeg, through the Winnipeg River System to the rugged lake country of the Whiteshell, join Boreal Shores on a tour of art and landscapes as artists across this beautiful region open their homes and studios to share their world with you.

This year, their art route starts within the Beaches of 59 in Beaconia, Belair, Hillside Beach, Victoria and more; travel South on Highway 11 through Powerview-Pine Falls and St. Georges, then to Lac du Bonnet, Pinawa, Seven Sisters Falls, and River Hills; On Highway 44, you’ll also stop in the communities of Whitemouth, Rennie, Falcon Lake and end back on Highway 11 in Hadashville as your final destination. Visit Boreal Shores’ website to see the map.

With 21 stops, 38 artists, and 1 Art Gallery (Pinawa Art Gallery), this weekend will be full of gorgeous artwork, landscapes, and diverse creations with acrylics, batik, clay, clothing, fibre, glass (fused, painted and stained), jewelry, metal work, mixed media, photography, oils, pottery, watercolours, woodcarving and woodworking. For a list of participating artists, visit BSAT’s website.

Boreal Shores wants everyone to feel and be safe. At each stop along the Tour, hand sanitizer and masks will be available at the door for anyone who needs.

Don’t Just Experience, Participate!

At your first stop on the Tour, don’t forget to ask the artist for your Passport. At each stop, the artist will initial that you were at that location; when you are finished for the weekend, drop your Passport off at your last stop and be entered for some amazing prizes! There is a draw for participants who travel to the most stops during the Tour (info taken via the Passports). Winners will receive one of these amazing gift certificates: $125.00 sponsored by Winnipeg River Arts Council, $100.00 sponsored by the Pinawa Art Gallery, and $75.00 sponsored by John Angus. True North Sports & Entertainment has sponsored the cost of the Passports this year.

While viewing all these breathtaking art pieces, your voice can be heard with the People’s Choice Award! Each artist has created a unique piece of work for the Tour with the theme of “Boreal Slice of Life,’ and you get to vote for your favourite one in each region of the tour (South, Centre, and North Region). At each destination, make sure to find the themed work (identified by wooden signs created by Louise Kress. Example in the photo below) and take note of your favourite entry by Region in your Passport. The artists in each region that receives the most votes will be awarded a gift card. South Region winner receives a gift card to The Spicy Radish (Whitemouth), Centre Region winner receives a gift card to Papertown Grill (Pine Falls), and North Region winner receives a gift card to the Birchwood Motor Hotel (Traverse Bay).
