Hike the Beautiful Rosenthal Nature Park (Mitchell)

If you are looking to indulge yourself in nature, the Rosenthal Nature Park is just the place to do it! Years ago, the Park was once the community of Rosenthal. Home to twenty-five families in the 1870s, not only is Rosenthal Park here to preserve the breathtaking beauty of nature, but also to preserve the history and artifacts on the site.

The Park has layers of importance to the area. Rosenthal Nature Park is an innovative model for sustainable development and integrated watershed management. It demonstrates the viability of utilizing the natural functions of wetlands to retain and slow high water flows; reduce surface water runoff in urban and semi-urban areas, and purify water quality with native plant species.

Walking trails connects the wetland and upland ecosystems of the Park to wildlife observation areas. The observation areas throughout the Park offer incredible opportunities to experience wildlife in a comfortable environment.

The Park is bursting with life! The Park is designed for plant life and wildlife to contribute to greater biodiversity in the area.

In the wetland ecosystem, you can discover a lake and peninsula. This constructed wetland is planted with native aquatic plant species from local donor sites and is an ideal habitat for native and migratory waterfowl.

The upland ecosystem is just as magnificent as the wetlands. Seeded with wildflower mix flourishing into a colourful array of flowering plants, they invite various butterfly species to the area. A forage mix is seeded alongside the existing bushes bordering the northern edge of the Park. This provides the ideal vegetative ground cover for deer foraging.

Placed throughout the Park are grassland birdhouses and waterfowl houses, offering waterfowl and shorebird species places to nest.

Your visit to Rosenthal Nature Park is one that promises to be fun, educational, and visually spectacular.
